COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Bethel's men's tennis team picked up a huge conference win on Saturday afternoon, as the Royals defeated Saint John's University in Collegeville, Minn., by a final score of 7-2. BU took two out of three from the Johnnies in doubles play before winning five out of six in one-on-one matches.

Matt Schull and Luke Palmquist handled their opponent 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, which was the exact score that Kolin Kiekhoefer and Kent Schaller defeated their opponent by at No. 3 doubles.

Kolin Kiekhoefer and Luke Palmquist then helped the Royals with clutch victories at No. 2 and 3 singles. Kiekhoefer topped his opponent 6-3, 6-4, while Palmquist won 6-2, 6-1. Jakob Bartels, Blake Watts, and Brett Lizotte all won at No. 4, 5, and 6 singles, which rounded out the Royals' seven points.

At 11-7 overall and 3-3 in MIAC play, Bethel is still eyeing a postseason berth with three matches remaining. The Royals next match on Thursday against Macalester will likely predict whether or not BU is headed to the conference playoffs or not. Bethel's date with the Scots at Ona Orth Complex is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
