MIAC Baseball Pitcher-of-the-WeekThe Bethel baseball team became the first team in the MIAC to earn conference wins in 2015, as they swept their opening doubleheader with Macalester Saturday in Arden Hills. Junior pitcher
Tyler Heitmann (Baldwin, Wis./Baldwin-Woodville) continued his sparkling start to 2015 with a gem in his MIAC season debut, as he earned the win to improve to 4-0 this season. For his performance, the MIAC sports information directors honored Heitmann Monday with his second MIAC Baseball Pitcher-of-the-Week award.
Heitmann continued his strong start to the season in his first MIAC outing to lead Bethel to a 7-2 victory over the Scots. He threw seven strong innings, allowing just two earned runs on six hits and three walks while striking out six Macalester hitters in the win. This season, Heitmann is now 4-0 with a miniscule 0.67 ERA in four starts. He leads the MIAC in wins, strikeouts (35) and innings pitched, ranks second in strikeouts per game (11.67) and is third in ERA and complete games (two). He has 35 strikeouts against just four walks in 2015.
Thanks to the big sweep, Bethel improved to 13-3 overall and is alone atop the MIAC standings at 2-0, as the Royals and Scots were the only MIAC doubleheader that was able to play on opening day. Heitmann and Bethel will try to continue rolling this week with a MIAC doubleheader at home against Augsburg Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. and the Royals will host Bethany Lutheran Thursday for a 3:30 p.m. nonconference game.
