Box Score 4 BaseballThe Bethel University baseball team improved to 10-2 on the season with a sweep over Edgewood College Friday. The Royals won the first 11-5 and held on to win the second 8-7. BU led 8-4 in the final frame of game two, but needed a big out with the tying run at second base.
Mike Schultz finished the day 5-of-8 at the plate with two RBI's and four runs scored, while
Esteban Velasco went 3-for-7 with two RBI's and four runs as well.
Jake Hanzalik got the nod in the opening tilt, allowing three earned runs in 5.0 innings pitched. Hanzalik allowed five hits, in addition to walking three and striking out three.
Grant Martinson and Kelvin Mettig pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh respectively.
Joe Zorn was given the start in game two and the senior right-hander pitched a complete-game, allowing two earned runs on ten hits, zero walks, and three strikeouts.
Men's GolfThe Bethel University men's golf team got to complete their trip Friday with a match against NCAA Division II opponent Florida Tech. The two squads squared off at Duran Golf Club in Melbourne, Florida, and it was
Alex Case that led the team with a 75, followed by
AJ Oster and
Davis Tollette, who each fired a 77.
Bennett Smed rounded out the Top 4 with a 79.
Women's GolfThe Bethel University women's golf team had their final day in Southern California, as the Royals travel back to campus tomorrow. BU's squad spent considerable time at the Santa Barbara Pier throughout the day.
SoftballAfter experiencing heartbreak hotel for the first two days of the trip Bethel University's softball team was excited to finish their double-header Friday with a pair of wins. The Royals sweep consisted of a 2-1 win over Plattsburgh State and a 4-0 victory over Lancaster Bible College. BU trailed Plattsburgh in Friday's opener, but managed to tie the game at 1-1 in the fourth before
Caroline Kivisto hit a home run in the top of the seventh inning to give Bethel what ended up as a 2-1 victory. The Royals then teed off for four runs in one inning against Lancaster and held on to win 4-0.
Men's TennisThe Bethel University men's tennis team celebrated an eventful week with a beach day on their final day of the spring break trip. The squad traveled to Coco Beach, where they spent the entire day before returning to campus tomorrow.Â
