Royals Celebrate Sweep over UW-Superior in Tuesday's Twin Bill

ROSEVILLE, Minn.—Bethel University's baseball team improved to 3-1 on the season with a dominant series sweep over UW-Superior Tuesday night at the University of Northwestern-St. Paul. The Royals received two exceptional pitching performances from starters Matt Herringshaw and Tyler Heitmann, who both picked up a win in their season debut.

BU topped the Yellowjackets 4-2 in Tuesday's opener and then uncorked the bats in game two for a 14-0 shutout. Matt Herringshaw recorded a complete-game victory in the Royals' 4-2 victory, giving up four hits, six walks, and two earned runs in seven innings pitched. Herringshaw struck out five throughout the contest.

Tyler Heitmann then gave Bethel fans another gem in the second, as the junior right-hander gave up just two hits and zero runs in game two. Heitmann struck out nine and walked none in six innings pitched. Noah Callister closed out the night cap with a scoreless seventh. The Royals tallied 16 hits in total throughout game number two, with 11 different players logging a hit.

Sophomore first-baseman Bret Neuville had the brightest night at the plate, as cleanup hitter finished the sweep 6-of-7 with a cycle throughout the night. His deep home run over the left field wall, triple off the same fence, and double to center, helped him drive in five runs and score three more.

Bryce Marquardt continued his hot start from Monday night with a 3-for-6 effort Tuesday night. Marquardt was hit by two pitches as well. In all, Bethel's centerfielder scored four runs and drove in a pair. Jarad Watts also completed the evening 3-for-7 with four runs and a walk. Additionally Nik Anderson was 2-for-5 and was hit by a pitch, which bettered his season average to .500 and his OBP to .615.

The Royals now head to Ft. Myers, Florida, for their annual spring break trip. Bethel will face seven nonconference opponents, including the Minnesota Twins Rookie Team on Monday, March 16.
