ST. PAUL, Minn.—Coming into tonight's road test against Macalester College the Bethel University women's basketball team had the 11th lowest field goal percentage allowed by opposing teams nationwide. The Royals only bettered their season average against the Scots, as BU held Macalester to 23.4 percent shooting en route to a 65-41 win at the Leonard Center.
Â
Bethel's defensive effort went beyond just shooting percentage, but the Royals also forced Macalester into 24 team turnovers opposed to BU's 12 total on the night. This staggering difference led to a 30-5 margin in points off turnovers. In addition to the ability to score off of turnovers, Bethel was also able to capitalize on a size advantage down low. BU outrebounded the Scots 49-41 and outscored them in the paint 28-12.
Â
The Royals finished the game shooting 35 percent from the floor and 27 percent from the perimeter, but were able to end the game just south of 70 percent from the free throw line.
Â
Rachel Parupsky led Bethel from the floor, as the junior forward was 8-of-18 with 17 points, seven blocks, six rebounds, and four steals. Junior
Kalli Zimmermann also put forth a solid effort, as she added 13 points and eight rebounds.
Shanni Moorse hit double figures for the third time this season thanks to a 12-point and six-rebound performance, while
