EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The Bethel University women's hockey team wrapped the 2015 portion of their schedule with a non-conference loss on the road to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire by a 6-1 score. The Blugolds scored five unanswered goals, including four goals altogether in the first period, to run away with the victory.
Megan O'Brian scored the lone goal for Bethel.
The Blugolds scored first with a goal just over five minutes into the game. Bethel responded just two minutes later when O'Brian scored with an assist from
Abby Larson. UWEC's Paige Dale then put on a show for the Blugolds, scoring three goals in just a nine-minute stretch to take control of the game and give herself a hat-trick in the first period alone. The 4-1 deficit after the first period proved to be too much for the Royals to overcome. UW-Eau Claire added one more goal in each of the second and third periods while keeping the Royals off the scoreboard for the 6-1 final score.
The loss to UWEC (5-6-3) was the second of the year for Bethel as the Blugolds defeated the Royals in Bethel University Arena back on November 6th. The Royals overall record fell to 3-5-2 as they now will take a break between until returning to the ice on January 8th and 9th at Concordia-Wisconsin. The Royals will return to MIAC action the following weekend against Augsburg as Bethel is currently in fourth place in the MIAC with a 3-1-2 conference mark.
