NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Bethel University women's hockey team put up seven goals again on St. Olaf College Saturday evening, taking a 7-4 victory after posting a 7-0 victory in the series opener.
Lauren Kolak scored the Royals first two goals while
Megan O'Brian scored twice and
Lindsay Burman,
Kathryn Larson and
Hadley Cookson each scored once. Kolak finished with four points total while Larson and O'Brian had three.
Kolak's first goal was the only score of the first period at 7:58. O'Brian and Larson assisted. The next score in the game came on a Bethel power play with Kolak scoring again at 4:12 in the second period.
Natalie Simons and
Erin Harper assisted. The Oles then scored their first goal against Bethel in the series at 5:46. Bethel answered four minutes later when seniors
Lindsay Burman and
Kalie Johnson teamed up to make it 3-1. The Oles scored again on a power play two mintes later to draw within 3-2. O'Brian then gave the Royals their two goal lead back three minutes later with assists from Kolak and Larson. The Oles were not done however, as they scored the next goal at 5:04 in the third period to draw within 4-3. Within the next three minutes Bethel scored twice to take a commanding 6-3 lead with just 12 minutes remaining.
Hadley Cookson scored the first goal from
Jill Larson.
Kathryn Larson, who had a hat-trick Friday night, scored the second goal with assists to Kolak and Simons. St. Olaf scored their fourth goal with five minutes remaining in the third but were unable to draw any closer as O'Brian sealed the win with a goal with just 41 seconds remaining.
Kalie Johnson assisted O'Brian.
Michelle Klimstra made 18 saves for Bethel, who outshot St. Olaf 42-22. The Royals were 1-3 on power plays while St. Olaf was 1-2.
The Royals will return to action next weekend, taking on the St. Catherine University Wildcats.
