ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University men's tennis team punched their ticket to the 2014 MIAC playoffs with an 8-1 victory over Concordia College Saturday afternoon. In their final home match of the season the Royals got out to a quick start with another doubles sweep and won all but one singles match. The victory puts the Royals at 5-4 in MIAC play and into the MIAC playoffs for the first time since 2010 and first time under second year head coach
Drew Fernelius.
"We are pumped to get into the playoffs and will be ready for Wednesday's match," said coach Fernelius. "I am really proud of the guys after being picked to finish seventh we will be fourth or fifth."
For the second consecutive day the Royals dominated doubles play with the three victories coming by scores of 8-2 at No. 1 doubles, 8-1 at No. 2 and 8-4 at No. 3. In singles play Bethel's
Kolin Kiekhoefer at No. 3 singles and Steve Schull at No. 5 singles finished their opponents off quickly, by 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-1 scores.
Luke Palmquist won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.
Matt Schull was victorious 6-0, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Senior
Kirby Ronning got a win in his final home match by a 6-1, 6-4 score at No. 2 singles while fellow senior
Jared Wall came up just short at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 4-6, (10-8).

The Royals finish the regular season with a 9-10 overall record and 5-4 in the MIAC. They will await other results from around the MIAC before their seeding and opponent for the MIAC playoffs on Wednesday is determined.
