More Heartbreak for Bethel in 2-1 OT Loss at UST

Box Score

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. – The Bethel University men's hockey team suffered their fourth consecutive loss, with all game winning scores coming late in the third period or overtime, as Bethel fell 2-1 to St. Thomas in overtime. The Royals held a 1-0 lead after scoring 5:47 into the third period but St. Thomas scored the equalizer five minutes later. The Tommies scored the game winner less than two minutes into the overtime. The overtime victory for St. Thomas marks the second such win over the Royals as they defeated Bethel 3-2 in overtime in the MIAC showcase in November.

EJ Gann scored the Royals goal and was assisted by Eric Szafranski and Garrett Windle. Steven Bolton turned in another outstanding performance in a tough luck loss, making double digit saves in each period and 40 for the game.

St. Thomas remained unbeaten in MIAC play, improving to 9-0-2, and moving just two points behind first place Gustavus. Bethel dropped to 2-8-1 in the MIAC. The Royals and Tommies will square off at Bethel University Arena at 7 p.m. Saturday night.
