BLAINE, Minn. – A frustrating season for the Bethel University men's hockey team came to a frustrating end with a 1-0 loss at home to Gustavus. The Royals suffered their 11th one goal loss of the season as they were unable to find the back of the net despite many close calls. Gustavus wrapped up second place in the MIAC standings but the Royals, as they've done all season, hung right with the Gusties.
Gustavus' goal came at 8:34 in the first period as Gustav Bengtson was able to get one over the left shoulder of Bethel's
Steven Bolton. It would be the only goal of the night allowed by Bolton, who made 30 saves, including several sensational stops to keep Bethel within striking range. Bolton finished his senior season with a MIAC high 653 saves, 92 more than the next MIAC goalie.
Bethel killed off all seven Gustavus power plays but were 0-3 on their own power play, including a minute of 5-3 in the second period. The Gusties outshot the Royals 31-24 in the game.
The loss marks the end of the season for Bethel and the careers of eight seniors;
