BLAINE, Minn. – The Bethel University men's hockey team was unable to generate much offense in Saturday afternoon's 4-1 loss to Concordia College. The Cobbers scored twice in the second and twice in the third periods to build a 4-0 lead before the Royals scored a power play goal at 17:35 in the third. Concordia outshot Bethel 45-31.
The Royals entered Saturday's game having allowed nine first period goals in their three previous home games and were able to shut out the Cobbers in the first period. Unfortunately, for Bethel, they were unable to score themselves to take an early lead. Concordia scored their first goal thirteen minutes into the second period and added another just under three minutes later. The Cobbers built their lead to 3-0 with a goal at 6:02 in the third period and added a power play goal at 13:41. Bethel's lone goal came from
Mitch Hughes with assists from
Brock Raffaele and
Tony Larson. All three of Bethel's goals in the series with Concordia came on power plays. Each team had four different power plays and both scored one goal.
Matt Arnold made 41 saves for Bethel.
Bethel will step out of MIAC play next week and take on Concordia-Wisconsin in the second annual Thanksgiving Cup series. The Royals and Falcons will face-off on "black Friday" at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 3 p.m.
