MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Bethel University women's hockey team dropped their second consecutive game to a winless opponent as they fell 3-2 at Concordia College Friday night. The Cobbers scored with just under four-and-a-half minutes remaining in the third period to break a 2-2 tie and take their first victory. All four of Concordia's games entering the contest had come against Top 10 ranked teams, however while Bethel entered this weekend with a No. 12 national ranking.
After scoring just once last weekend, the normally high powered Bethel offense struck quickly Friday night.
Caroline Kivisto, the MIAC's leading scorer, tallied the Royals first goal at 3:35 in the first period with
Lindsay Burman assisting. Concordia tied the game up at 1-1 with a first period goal at 9:21. The Cobbers then took the lead 3:33 into the second period. Freshman
Natalie Simons scored late in the second period to tie it back up for Bethel.
Kalie Johnson assisted Simons. The game would remain knotted at 2-2 until the Cobbers game winner at 15:36 in the third.
Bethel outshot Concordia 22-20 for the game, including 9-3 in the third period. Freshman
Michelle Klimstra made 17 saves for Bethel. Neither team was able to score a power play goal with Concordia getting three cracks at it and Bethel two.
The loss keeps Bethel winless through their first three conference games as they are 0-2-1 and 3-3-1 overall. Concordia improved to 1-4 and 1-2 in the MIAC. The two teams will face-off again Saturday at 2 p.m.
