NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Bethel University women's hockey team picked up a big MIAC road win Friday night at St. Olaf College by a score of 4-2. Four different Royals scored goals for Bethel and
Erika Allen made a total of 35 saves in the net. Bethel never trailed in the game but St. Olaf tied the game at 1-1 and 2-2 before the Royals scored the game's final two goals.
The MIAC's leading scorer,
Cristina Masten, got the Royals on the board first with a power play goal 8:18 into the first period.
Megan O'Brian and the MIAC's assist leader,
Kalie Johnson, assisted Masten. St. Olaf tied the game up three minutes later before Johnson tallied a power play goal of her own with just 12 seconds remaining in the first period. Masten and
Karly Vohden assisted Johnson. The Oles tied the game up again 7:19 into the second period. The Royals scored their third power play goal at 14:02 in the second when Vohden put the game winner in, assisted by
Megan Niblock and Johnson.
Renee Johnson added an insurance goal for Bethel at 14:35 in the third period, her first goal of the season.
Lauren Kolak assisted Johnson.
The Royals converted on three of their six power plays while killing all four of St. Olaf's power play opportunities. Seven different Royals scored points with
Kalie Johnson totaling three.
The Royals victory keeps them firmly entrenched in third place in the MIAC standings at 7-2 (11-3-2 overall) with 14 points. St. Olaf fell to 4-5 in the MIAC and 4-12 overall. The Royals and Oles will come to the Bethel University Arena for a Saturday afternoon matchup. The puck will drop at 3 p.m.
