BLAINE, Minn. – The Bethel University men's hockey team lost a heartbreaker Friday night at home against St. Olaf College, 1-0 when the Oles scored with just 5:32 remaining in the third period. The two teams had skated in a very clean game for over 54 minutes without a score before St. Olaf's Steven Sherman was able to find the upper left corner. Only five penalties were called during the game and Bethel outshot St. Olaf 25-22 overall.
The shutout was just the second time this season Bethel has been blanked.
Steven Bolton was outstanding once again in the net for Bethel, making 21 saves. St. Olaf's Steve Papciak, the reigning MIAC Men's Hockey Athlete-of-the-Week, made 25 saves to pick up the shutout win.
The Royals fall to 2-6-1 in the MIAC and 3-12-2 overall, while St. Olaf improved to 4-3-2 and 6-9-3 overall. Bethel and St. Olaf will face off Saturday in Northfield at 7:30 p.m.
