ARDEN HILLS, Minn.—Going into the final day of regular season play among Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play, the Bethel University baseball team was uncertain of its postseason fate. However, after Augsburg College and St. Olaf College split their head-to-head series Thursday, the Royals (23-14, 10-10 MIAC) were guaranteed a ticket to the playoff dance.
The conference office recently announced that the 2013 MIAC Playoffs would be changed to a six-team, single-elimination tournament for this year only because of the inclement weather throughout the season that forced numerous schedule changes.
Because of the restructured event, Bethel will be the No. 4 seed in the tournament and will play the No. 5 seed, Saint John's University, at Veterans Field in Minnetonka, Minn., at 3 p.m. The winnner of the contest will move on to face St. Thomas in the MIAC Playoff semifinals.
