Day four milestones
Powerball…
The Royals softball team continued its dominance Friday with a pair of victories, including a 10-8 shootout against the College of New Jersey and an 8-0 shutout over Farmingdale State College. Bethel's hitters tallied four home runs—including three in game two—two triples, and six doubles in the 12 innings of play.
Caroline Kivisto led BU by going 5-for-6 with six runs batted in, which included a three-run bomb in game two, and two runs scored, while
Rachel Gilbert finished 7-for-9 with her first home run of the season. Bethel's fastpitch squad has now won seven of their last eight, and its only loss in that stretch came because of two unearned runs in the final frame against UT-Dallas.
Rowley pushes Royals past Rockford…
Matt Rowley and the Bethel baseball team defeated Rockford College Friday 5-1. Rowley didn't allow a run until the eighth inning, as the senior pitcher struck out 11 batters and walked just one in eight innings of work.
Keaton Schut finished the job with a six-pitch performance in the ninth.
Mike Schultz continued his dominance at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with a run scored, while
David Freed went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. The Royals are now 11-2 to start the season—something that hasn't been done since the turn of the century.
Women's tennis finishes Friday 1-1…
The women's tennis team snapped a four-match winning streak that had accumulated since March 8 against St. Benedict. After defeating Roger Williams 8-1 in the first match of the day, the Royals fell to Wheaton College in the second 2-7.
Abby Edin was victorious in both No. 1 singles matches, while
Kayla Wheeler won at No. 4 singles against Wheaton and No. 2 doubles against RWU.
Tough day for men's tennis…
The Royals men's tennis squad felt a little black and blue after Friday's double-header against Roger Williams University and Wheaton College. Bethel fell to RWU 6-3 and then closed its day with a 2-7 defeat to Wheaton. Not one individual went undefeated for BU, but it was
Luke Palmquist that captured two points against Wheaton at No. 5 singles and No. 3 doubles with
Kirby Ronning.
Practice makes perfect …
Outdoor track and field season will officially begin for the Royals program tomorrow, as the team will take part in the Point Loma Nazarene University College Invite. The San Diego meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. After spending nearly five days in Southern California, Bethel has had a good amount of time to train and prepare while also enjoying time as a team in warm weather. Times for Saturday's events can be seen
here.
Daily temps…
Friday was beautiful for Floridians and Californians. Orlando and Fort Myers both reached the low 80's, while the San Diego area peaked at 65 degrees. The Royals track and field teams should have excellent weather to run in tomorrow morning and afternoon before they return home Sunday.
