Day four milestones
Teeing off at Torrey…
Not to leave any traveling team out, the Bethel University men's golf team traveled to San Diego, California to practice for its upcoming spring season. The Royals had the opportunity to play at Torrey Pines—home of the 2008 PGA U.S. Open—bright and early this morning, as players got their wake up call at 5 a.m.
Weather woes…
Due to a good amount of rain and poor conditions, the Bethel University's men's and women's tennis match against St. Ambrose University was cancelled. The Royals gave every effort to make the courts playable (both blow drying and toweling off the surface—see Facebook page), but unfortunately BU will have to sacrifice a day of play and look forward to its match Thursday against Illinois Wesleyan University.
Playing with professionals…
Tuesday featured the Twins and Royals, but it was not what you may expect to see on Fox Sports North. Instead, the Minnesota Twins Rookie Team hosted the Bethel University Royals in a very entertaining game. The Royals struck first—going ahead 1-0—but the Twins responded with two runs in the sixth inning to go ahead 2-1. BU knotted the score at two, but missed a few more opportunities to score before the Twins got the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Leadoff hitter,
David Freed, ended the game 3-for-4 with a run scored.
A softball split…
The Royals softball team was back in action Tuesday after an off day Monday, and nearly pulled off its second consecutive day of multiple victories, but its second opponent—the University of Texas-Dallas scored the game-winning run in the seventh inning to defeat Bethel 8-7. BU scored five runs in the 6-2 come-from-behind victory over Ripon College in game one today.
Daily temps…
Tuesday was rainy throughout the entire state of Florida, however, it was softball and tennis that had it the worst. The baseball team battled the rain and was even able to welcome an alumni and parent relations event after the game.
