Day four milestones

Birthday boy…
Mike Schultz went 4-for-4 against Edgewood College in game one today, belting in three runs and scoring two more to help the Royals defeat the Eagles 10-4 in the Monday's opener. Schultz, who celebrated his birthday today, wasn't done however, as the Forest Lake, Minn., native drove in the game-winning run on a double to left field that scored David Freed.

Leaving on a jet plane…
The Bethel University men's and women's track and field squad's left for California today, as the Royals will compete in the PLNU Collegiate Open hosted by Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, Calif., Saturday. This meet will begin their 2013 outdoor track and field season.

Matchy-matchy
The men's and women's tennis teams participated in their first match of spring break and both had similar results, as each Bethel tennis teams defeated Central College. The women conquered the Dutch 9-0 with close wins at No. 1, No. 5, and No. 6 singles, as well as No. 1 doubles. Meanwhile, the men hung on to edge Central 5-4 with big wins from Luke Palmquist at No. 5 singles as well as David Leafblad and Kirby Ronning at No. 3 doubles.

Daily temps…
Monday's temperatures in sunny Florida topped out at 80 degrees, with moderate cloud coverage and a modest breeze. Favorable weather conditions, however, for baseball and tennis—helping Bethel go undefeated again for the second consecutive day.

Start your engines…and start em' strong…
The Royals baseball team improved to 9-2 with Monday's sweep over Edgewood College. This is the first time since the 2004 season that Bethel has lost just two games in its first 11 games, as BU finished that season 29-11 and just missed the MIAC Playoffs with a 12-8 record.

Softball sits Monday…
After four games of varsity softball on the first two days of spring break, the Bethel softball team rested Monday by going to the beach. Playing in Clermont, Florida, the team had to travel an hour and a half, but was able to enjoy the Atlantic Ocean.
