SAINT CLOUD, Minn. – The Bethel University women's hockey team scored three unanswered goals to pull out a 3-2 win on the road against the College of Saint Benedict.
Lindsay Burman,
Caroline Kivisto and
Cristina Masten all scored for the Royals, who are tied for third place in the MIAC standings and just one point behind second place St. Thomas.
The Blazers were able to get on the scoreboard first 12:21 into the game. Burman scored her goal 2:57 into the second period to tie the game up.
Kate Wahlin and
Molly Eagles assisted. Kivisto scored the go ahead goal for the Royals 1:29 into the third period before Masten added a needed insurance goal at 8:55. Masten and
Kalie Johnson assisted on Kivisto's goal and senior
Biz Huss assisted Masten. The Blazers scored to pull within one just over nine minutes remaining in the game. CSB managed just two shots the rest of the way, both of which were stopped by freshman goaltender
Erika Allen. Just 14 saves were needed from Allen to secure the victory while CSB goaltender Jenna Traut made 25 saves.
There was just one penalty committed in the game, a two minute tripping offense in the second period against Saint Ben's. Bethel attempted two shots on their power play and came up empty.
Saint Ben's will travel to the Bethel University Arena at the National Sports Center in Blaine Saturday afternoon for a 3 p.m. contest. The Royals will be looking for their fifth victory in a row.
