Balanced Offensive Attack Leads Royals in 5-3 Win Over Hamline

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Bethel University women's hockey team took full advantage of their opportunities Saturday afternoon in a 5-3 victory over Hamline University. The Royals took just 25 shots in the game, finding the back of the net on five them, with five different players scoring.

Bethel jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first period with Erin Harper and Megan O'Brian scoring for the Royals. Harper's goal got Bethel on the board at 8:19 in the first. She was assisted by Lauren Kolak. O'Brian's goal came with just under a minute remaining in the period on a Bethel power play as she was assisted by Lindsay Burman and Kathryn Larson. The Pipers were able to convert on a power play of their own at 6:08 in the second period to draw within one. The Royals scored the next three goals, however, to put the game out of reach.

Cristina Masten scored her 100th career point with a goal at 8:51 in the second period to put the Royals up 3-1. Kalie Johnson and Caroline Kivisto assisted Masten. Three minutes later Johnson scored on an assist from Kivisto on another Bethel power play. The Royals last goal came 3:57 into the third period as Kivisto scored with Masten and Johnson assisting. Hamline was able to put two goals on the board at 5:12 and 11:21 in the third to make the final score 5-3. The Pipers had just 18 shots in the game. Erika Allen recorded the win in the net for Bethel, making 15 saves. Bethel converted on two of their four power plays while Hamline converted on one of two.

Bethel improves to 6-2 on the season with a 5-1 MIAC record. The Royals will now take just two days off before returning to the ice as they will host Concordia College in a non-conference tilt on Tuesday night before a weekend series with Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
