Bethel Lights it up at UWEC, 5-1

Box Score

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The  Bethel University women's hockey team rang up five goals in a dominate, 5-1 victory over the Wisconsin-Eau Claire Blugolds Friday night. Bethel once again showed great balance in their offensive attack as four different Royals scored goals, led by freshman Kathryn Larson who scored twice. Larson along with Lindsay Burman tallied four points on the night while Caroline Kivisto had three. The high powered Royals have now scored five or more goals in four of their ten games on the season and are averaging 3.6 goals per game.

The Royals offense took some time to get in gear Friday night as the first goal did not come until the 17:04 mark in the first period as Lindsay Burman scored her fourth goal of the season. Larson and Kivisto assisted on the goal. Bethel's second goal came early in the second period at 2:52 when Megan O'Brian scored with Cristina Masten assisting. The assist from Masten would be the lone point of the night for the senior from Fergus Falls, Minn., but marks her 103rd career point, just two shy of Bethel's all-time record of 105.

Larson scored her first goal of the night fifteen minutes into the second period to put the Royals up 3-0. She was assisted by Burman and Erin Harper. Halfway through the third period the Blugolds were able to get one past Erika Allen for their lone score of the night. Allen made a total of 22 saves, including 17 in the first two periods as the Royals were able to build their comfortable lead.
The Royals responded to UWEC's goal just a minute and a half later as Larson scored again with Kivisto and Burman assisting. Bethel's final goal came with just 1:42 remaining in the game as Kivisto scored a goal of her own for the final 5-1 margin. Larson and Burman each tallied their fourth point of the night with assists on the score.

Just three penalties were called in the game, one on Bethel, as each goal was scored during five-on-five play. The Royals totaled 37 shots on the night to just 23 by the Blugolds.

Bethel improved to 7-2-1 on the year while UW-Eau Claire fell to 1-8-2. UWEC will travel to Bethel University Arena on Saturday to take on the Royals at 3 p.m.
