Royals Bounce Back with 4-1 Win

BLAINE, Minn. – The Bethel University women's hockey team bounced back after a Friday night loss to regain their high scoring form as they defeated Concordia College 4-1 Saturday afternoon. Kalie Johnson scored twice for the Royals as Bethel scored four unanswered goals, three in the third period, after an early score by the Cobbers gave Concordia an early 1-0 lead.
Concordia came out of the gates early and claimed their lead with a goal just 3:40 into the game as they were looking to sweep the Royals after a solid 1-0 win Friday night. The Royals were able to tie the game up at 15:18 in the first as freshman Kathryn Larson scored her fourth goal of the season. Megan O'Brian and Lindsay Burman assisted on the goal. The game remained tied all the way into the third period before Johnson scored the go ahead goal at 5:45 on a power play. Megan Noblock and Cristina Masten assisted on the score. Jill Larson then tacked on another goal at 13:24 with Lauren Kolak assisting. Johnson's second goal of the game, and third of the season, came at 18:25 to put the game well out of reach. Jill Larson assisted Johnson, her first of the season.

Erika Allen was again outstanding in the net for Bethel, allowing just the single goal but shutting out Concordia for the final 56 minutes. Allen made a total of 23 saves, including 18 combined in the second and third periods with the game still in the balance. For the game both teams attempted 24 shots. The Royals had four power play opportunities, converting on one of them while Concordia was 0-2 in power plays.

The Royals will now prepare for Friday, December 6th when they host the Hamline Pipers at 7 p.m.
