St. Olaf Stuns Royals at Home 5-2

Three goals within six minutes in the middle of the second period put St. Olaf in control

Box Score BLAINE, Minn. – A string of three unanswered goals in just under four minutes during the second period allowed the visiting Oles from St. Olaf to pull away in a 5-2 victory over the Bethel University women's hockey team. Biz Huss scored the first Royals goal and assisted on the second which was scored by Melanie Robertson. Lindsay Burman assisted on both goals for the Royals who fell to 6-7-1 overall and 3-3-1 in MIAC play.
 
St. Olaf got on the board first early in the first period when Nicole Stumpf was able to sneak one in between Bethel goalie Jess Newstrom's pads. St. Olaf held a 13-6 shot advantage in the first period but went into the first intermission with just the 1-0 lead. Huss tied the game up for Bethel just 2:55 into the second period but the Oles took control of the game five and a half minutes later. Three St. Olaf goals, each two minutes apart, stunned the Royals and gave St. Olaf an insurmountable 4-1 lead. The Royals got a spark early in the third period when Melanie Robertson scored her second goal of the season 2:43 into the period. Bethel outshot St. Olaf 10-4 in the third period but were unable to score again, despite several good chances and the Oles added an empty net goal with just over a minute left for the 5-2 final margin. Freshman Erika Allen played 27 scoreless minutes in the net for the Royals making six saves. Both teams had 5:39 of power play opportunities but neither team scored and the two teams combined for just seven shots.
 
The Royals will travel to Northfield tomorrow evening in an attempt to gain a series split and move back into a tie with the Oles in the MIAC standings. The game will start at 7:30 p.m. at the Northfield Ice Arena.
