MATCH RESULTS
St. Paul, Minn. – Bethel University's men's tennis team fired back with a vengeance after falling to St. Olaf last week 9-0, as the Royals took down Hamline University Tuesday afternoon 5-4. BU began the match with three straight victories in the doubles competitions and captured two more singles wins to nab its second MIAC and fourth overall triumph of the season.
Tucker Morris (Jr., Arden Hills, Minn.) and
Reggie Ronning (Jr., Alexandria, Minn.) started off strong in doubles number one, defeating the opposing Hamline combo 8-3.
Kent Nichols (Sr., Zimmerman, Minn.) and
David Leafblad (Jr., Coon Rapids, Minn.) followed suite in number two doubles, with a mirrored victory over Hamline.
Bryce Johnson (Sr., Blaine, Minn.) and
Steven Schull (So., Eagan, Minn.) then handled HU's number three doubles team 8-1.
Reggie Ronning captured his second win of the day in the number three singles competition, defeating his opponent in matching 6-4, 6-4 sets.
Bryce Johnson also recorded his second triumph of the day in the number four singles match, when ousting the Hamline competitor 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 10-2. For Johnson, it is his fifth match to go to a third set and his fourth match that has witnessed a tiebreaker in a set.
Kent Nichols was downed in the number two singles match 7-6 (7-3), 6-3, while
Steven Schull was outdualed 4-6, 6-4, 5-10. Additionally,
Kirby Ronning (Jr., Blaine, Minn.) was just barely defeated 7-6 (4-7), 2-6, 6-10.
The Royals will face St. Cloud State University next Tuesday, May 1 in the final match of the 2012 season at Ona Orth Complex. The battle between the nonconference contenders is set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
