Baseball Program Participates in MIAC Effort to “Strike Out Prostate Cancer”

MIAC welcomes second consecutive charity effort

MIAC RELEASE

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- For the second consecutive season, MIAC baseball teams have joined forces with the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) in an effort to "Strike Out Prostate Cancer." For the week of April 16-22, 2012, all MIAC baseball games will double as events to raise funds and awareness to combat prostate cancer.

The two primary goals of Strike Out Prostate Cancer week are to raise money to benefit the PCF and its work to discover a cure for the disease, and to raise awareness off the affliction - particularly in males ages 18-to-30 - to encourage them to be aware of the disease and how to detect it as early as possible.

The Royals hope to take part in this week long effort by sporting matching wrist bands during play and by having Chuck Raabe throw out the first pitch in Saturday's double-header against Augsburg College that is slated to begin at 1 p.m. Chuck Raabe, Head Baseball Coach Brian Raabe's father, is a five-year prostate cancer survivor.

All proceeds raised at MIAC baseball games throughout the week will be donated to the PCF, so all fans who purchase tickets or pay admission to any conference game this week will be simultaneously supporting MIAC baseball and contributing to the Strike Out Prostate Cancer initiative. Donations will also be accepted at all games.

Anyone can contribute to the MIAC's fundraising effort to benefit the PCF through an online donation site. Click here to access the site and click on "General Team Donation" near the middle of the screen to get started. Enter your donation amount in the box that appears and click, "Continue," complete the form on the following page and click, "Submit." The PCF is a 501(c)(3) organization. All donations are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. A receipt will be sent by E-mail. All donations of $250 or more will also receive a letter acknowledging the donation.

The MIAC has set up a Web site (click here) to promote Strike Out Prostate Cancer week with information and links, and it will be updated throughout the week to help the conference teams promote the individual events on each campus.
