Bethel can't contain Tommies

Royals fall 2-7 to St. Thomas

MATCH RESULTS

ARDEN HILLS, Minn.
– Bethel University played a grueling match Thursday afternoon against the University of St. Thomas in a MIAC competition, but fell in the end 2-7. Despite losing seven matches, the Royals took two matches deep into the third set and had two other matches play to a 7-5 finish in a set.
 
Tucker Morris (Jr., Arden Hills, Minn.) and Reggie Ronning (Jr., Alexandria, Minn.) opened the afternoon matinee with a 8-5 doubles victory in the number one slot. Both the number two and three teams fell 8-4, however, which put BU down early 2-1.
 
Bethel tied it at two when Morris captured his second victory of the day in the number one singles competition, defeating his opponent 6-4, 6-2. With the win, the junior out of Arden Hills, Minn. improves to 7-5 on the season and 3-3 within conference play. Kent Nichols (Sr., Zimmerman, Minn.) was defeated in the number two singles match 7-5, 6-4 and Reggie Ronning was out-dueled 4-6, 6-1, 10-8 at number three singles. Bryce Johnson (Sr., Blaine, Minn.) sent his number four singles competition to three sets for the fourth time this season, but was defeated 7-6 (9-7), 0-6, 7-10.
 
With the loss the Royals fall to 3-9 overall and 1-5 within MIAC play. Bethel will take its show on the road for the next three contests, facing Macalester first in St. Paul this Saturday.
