Men's and women's tennis was the only team to compete Thursday, as both the baseball and softball clubs enjoyed a much-needed day off. After playing six consecutive days of games, the baseball team enjoyed more of the same, only this time as a spectator. The Royals baseball club traveled to Hammond Stadium, which is only ten minutes away from the team's hotel, to watch the Minnesota Twins in a Spring Training game against the Baltimore Orioles. Coaches and players also enjoyed the Sunshine State by going to the beach located in Fort Myers.

The softball team also enjoyed their day off at the beach, however, BU's fast pitch club traveled several hours away to the famous Cocoa Beach. Head Coach Rod Radcliffe and his unit have played eight games thus far, and looked to utilize Thursday's peace and relaxation, to propel them into the final four games in Florida.

The men's and women's squad consumed Thursday's sunshine on the courts, instead of at the beach or a professional ball park. The two separate groups were paired against Colorado College at the Oak Street Courts in Kissimmee, Fla., where the women snagged an exceptional 5-4 victory, however, the men fell 2-7 after winning two-of-three doubles matches.

In the singles competition the women's tennis club rattled off four wins over the Tigers of Colorado College in the No. 3 through 6 matches. Kristin Vivian (Fr., Green Bay, Wis.) and Kayla Wheeler (Jr., Oakdale, Minn.) both won their matches in two sets, however, Amanda Johnson (So., Vadnais Heights, Minn.) and Abigail Kreklau (Fr., Maple Grove, Minn.) both rallied back to defeat their opponent in a grueling third set. Johnson rallied from a 4-1 deficit in the third set to defeat her opponent 7-5, while Kreklau fought to capture a 7-6 victory, despite being down late 5-4.

In the doubles showcase only Charise Kendrick (So., Scandia, Minn.) and Amanda Johnson were able to muster a win, as the duo outscored Colorado College's No. 3 team 8-4. Wheeler and Vivian nearly gathered a point for BU in the No. 2 spot, yet fell in the end 7-9.

The men's team looked sharp early on, as both the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles combinations ratcheted a victory by a margin of 8-5. The Royals were without its No. 2 and No. 3 singles players though, and found it hard to compose the same magic in the one-on-one play. After winning his doubles match with Kirby Ronning (Jr., Blaine, Minn.), junior Tucker Morris (Jr., Arden Hills, Minn.) fought to a 5-7, 5-7 loss in the No. 1 singles. Bryce Johnson (Sr., Blaine, Minn.) and Steven Schull (So., Eagan, Minn.) also showed signs of significant life on the court, but couldn't close out the competition, falling in consecutive sets.

The baseball and softball squads return to the diamond Friday, as the baseball team challenges Lawrence to a nine-inning game at 11 a.m. and the softball club plays a double-header scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Fans are reminded that all baseball and softball games will have live stats available here and live webcasts will also be available for baseball here.
