BOX SCORE
BLAINE, Minn. – Bethel University used two late third-period goals to tie the game up 4-4 and push the game into extra minutes versus St. Olaf College, yet fell in the end 5-4, giving up a power-play goal just over a minute into the frame. The Royals managed 25 shots, including 10 third period opportunities, but couldn't manage the game-winner in the end.
The first period game the Royals the initial 1-0 lead when
Kate Wahlin (Jr., Lakeville, Minn.) recorded her fifth goal of the season, from
Allison Linde (So., Bloomington, Minn.), who tallied her third assist on the year. BU suffered two five-on-five goals; however, over the next four minutes that gave the visiting Oles a 2-1 lead.
In the second period
Allison Linde found herself in the stat book once again with her first goal of the year, on an unassisted goal with 16 minutes remaining in the frame. St. Olaf composed two power-play goals in the second and third frame, propelling the Oles to a 4-2 lead with 10:03 to play in the game.
The Royals fought back as
Biz Huss (Jr., Beaver Bay, Minn.) fired her ninth goal on a power-play opportunity at the 14-minute mark. Huss's goal was assisted by a pair of BU's first-line skaters,
Rachael Geng (Sr., South Saint Paul, Minn.) and
Anna Carlson (Sr., Roseville, Minn.). Bethel tallied the equalizer with three minutes to play in the game when
Kalie Johnson (Fr., Richfield, Minn.) posted her seventh goal of the season off a Geng dump in the crease.
A costly interference penalty with 20 seconds remaining in the third period gave way to a power-play goal 1:18 into the overtime period that downed the Royals in the end 5-4.
BU as a team finished plus five, opposed to St. Olaf's negative five.
Biz Huss finished the competition with five shot attempts, including four alone in the final period.
Haley Toter (Sr., Park Ridge, Ill.) delivered a pair in both the first and second frame, to finish with four.
With the loss Bethel falls to 6-7-2 (4-4-0 MIAC) and looks to regroup as it goes head-to-head against St. Catherine next Friday and Saturday.
