ST. PETER, Minn.
– The Bethel Royals could only conjure up 3 hits in the opening game of their doubleheader Saturday against Gustavus Adolphus College, making for a bad recipe on a sour game. The Royals would go onto fall 4-1 in game one and couldn't regain momentum for game two as they fell 4-3.

Despite allowing 13 hits in 4.1 inning of work, pitcher Chris Harrell managed to keep the Royals in the game by only allowing 4 runs, while walking none and striking out two. The Royals scattered three hits, coming off the bats of David Freed, Mike Sedjo, and Buddy Flaherty, with Jay Slick recording the lone RBI. Chris Dent pitched the final 1.2 innings and didn't allow a run.

In the nightcap of the doubleheader, Bethel put 3 runs on the board in the 3rd inning when Esteban Abbey singled to right to score Matt Pearson who reached on a walk. Jay Slick would go onto ground out to the second basemen, but Buddy Flaherty scored following the double he hit to right field. Erik Anderson would drive in the final run for the Royals on a RBI single through the left side to score Abbey.

David Freed pitched a solid game for the Royals, as he went 6 strong giving up 4 earned and striking out 4. Keaton Schut took the tough luck loss, as he gave up a hit in the final frame for that led to the Gusties walk-off 4-3 win.

The Royals now move to 6-6 in MIAC play, with a 17-11 overall record. Bethel will have a busy week next week when they take part in seven games. The first starting Tuesday when they have a doubleheader at Hargis Park against Macalester College. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
