ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Bethel Baseball team took the field at Koch Diamond on the campus of St. Thomas University Saturday afternoon looking to improve upon their 2-2 MIAC mark. Those hopes did not come to fruition on the day, as the Royals dropped the first game by a score of 5-2, and lost the second 7-3.

In game one of the double dip, Chris Harrell pitched 5 solid innings allowing 8 hits and 1 earned run. Harrell allowed 4 free passes and struck out 3 Tommies on the day.

The Tommies struck first, with a 4 run second inning highlighted by a homer off the bat of J.D. Dorgan. The Royals closed the Tommies lead in the top of the 5th after Travis Piepho singled home Jesse Nickols who reached base with a leadoff single to left field. Matt Rowley then added to the scoring by knocking a sac fly to centerfield that scored Alex Hinseth who also singled earlier in the inning.

The scoring would end there for the Royals, as the Tommies would go onto add another insurance run in the bottom of the 6th to take the game 5-2.

Despite the Royals jumping out to an earlier 3-0 lead in game two thanks to a two-run homer by Erik Anderson, they couldn't hold the lead throughout the remainder of the contest.

The Tommies chipped away at the Royals lead by adding 2 runs in the 3rd and 4 in the 4th to give them a 6-3 lead. The Royals could never combat the Tommies pitching arsenal the rest of the day, as they dropped game two 7-3. Piepho finished the game 2-4 with Anderson collecting the lone 2 RBI.

Bethel will take on Crown College Monday afternoon in a mid-week matchup at Hargis Park. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
