BLAINE, Minn. – After two wins against the MIAC defending regular season and playoff champions one week ago, what could be better for the Bethel University men's hockey program? How about a 2-1 victory over #11 Milwaukee School of Engineering? The Royals utilized a 2-0 lead within the first 36 minutes that propelled Bethel past the ranked Raiders.
Jack Paul (Jr., Minnetonka, Minn.) ended his quiet streak of games without scoring when netting a power-play goal past the MSOE goalie with less than six minutes remaining in the first period. Paul's shot was set up on a strong pass from
Jon Crouse (Jr., Alexandria, Minn.) and
Tyler Swanson (Fr., Fargo, N.D.). Crouse and Swanson achieved a point on his eighth and sixth assist, respectively.
Sixteen minutes into the middle period welcomed the Royals second goal that put Bethel's men's hockey squad up 2-0. Tyler Sorenson (So., Madison, Wisc.) slapped a wrist-shot from near the back blue line on a pass from E.J. Gann (Fr., San Jose, Calif.) and
Austin Hatch (Sr., Cloquet, Minn.) For Sorenson, it was his third goal on the year, while Gann and Hatch recorded their first and fifth assist.
The Raiders mustered a goal in the final three minutes of the second period, but it was all the Royals would surrender as BU played flawless defense in the final 20 minutes to preserve the 2-1 margin.
Dan Harper (So., Blaine, Minn.) received the start in the net for the Royals and performed wonderfully, allowing one goal and shutting the door on 29 MSOE shot attempts.
Bethel only managed 23 shots throughout the afternoon matinee, but capitalized on two making the score 2-1 in favor of the Royals.
Tyler Swanson fired four shots towards the visiting net, while
Jack Paul notched three.
BU now has a three-week hiatus before it hits the ice again in January, where it will see eight contests against MIAC opponents. With today's win the Royals have now won three straight and are 5-8 overall (3-3 MIAC).
