Winona, Minn. - The Bethel University Women's Hockey team had a great night on Friday as they shut-out the Saint Mary's University Cardinals (3-0). The same could not be said for Saturday's rematch as the Royals fell short in a 2-1 loss against their MIAC opponent. The Royals are now 3-3-1 in the MIAC and 6-6-1 overall.
The story of the night hinged on the early goals of Saint Mary's players, Nicole Olson (New Brighton, Minn.) and Sheree Haslemore (Gore, New Zealand). Their efforts were swift and proved lasting as one goal was scored 4:48 into the first period and 0:53 into the second period.
Royals offense was able to answer back on the power play when
Biz Huss put one into the net from
Kassy Sullivan at 18:48 into the second. With a total of 30 shots, the Royals were not short of scoring opportunities, but goaltending by the Cardinals faired well as they were able to maintain the lead and come up with the WIN.
The Bethel University Women's Hockey team will face off against St. Olaf on January 28th, 2011 in the Bethel University Arena at 7:00 p.m.
