ST. PETER, Minn. - Bethel played some outstanding tennis today. Unfortunately, the team's efforts would not be enough as Carleton ousted the Royals from the MIAC playoffs by a score of 6-3.

Just one week ago, Carleton was the last team Bethel played in the regular season, so the Royals knew what they were in for. But like last Saturday, the Royals were only able to get one victory in doubles and one in singles in a losing effort. Tom Ronning (Sr., Alexandria, Minn.) and doubles partner Kent Nichols (So., Zimmerman, Minn.) defeated their cross-court opponents once again 8-4, but the Royals still faced a 2-1 deficit going into singles play.

Nichols won his match in straight sets 6-2, 6-3, and Ronning won by default, but by then it was too late anyway. The Royals were simply overmatched in #5 and #6 singles to gain any ground against the Knights. Tucker Morris (Fr., Arden Hills, Minn.), who won in singles against Carleton last weekend in the #4 slot, was topped 6-0, 7-6, thus, in effect ending the Royals' season.

Bethel finishes the 2010 campaign with an overall record of 11-6 and a conference record of 5-4. The Royals say goodbye to four seniors who have all had prolific careers, leaving it up to the likes of Nichols and Morris to continue a winning tradition set forth by Ronning, Joel Cassens (Sr., Owatonna, Minn.), Jordan LeFebvre (Sr., Roseville, Minn.), and Michael Kreklau (Sr., Maple Grove, Minn.).
