ST. PAUL, Minn. -
The Royals men's tennis team clinched their fourth straight trip to the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) playoffs today with a 5-4 win over Hamline.

The Royals started off well as they took two of three matches in the doubles portion of the day. The duo of Tom Ronning (Sr., Alexandria, Minn.) and Kent Nichols (So., Zimmerman, Minn.) dominated their match from the start en route to a 8-2 win. Joel Cassens (Sr., Owatonna, Minn.) and Tucker Morris (Fr., Arden Hills, Minn.) were the other victorious pairing as they won their match 8-5. The Royals came just one point away from sweeping the doubles competition as Jordan LeFebvre (Sr., Roseville, Minn.) and Reggie Ronning (Fr., Alexandria, Minn.) lost in a thrilling match 9-8 (7-5).

Ronning kicked things off with a bang to start singles play, winning in straight sets without dropping a game, 6-0, 6-0. Nichols and Morris each won their singles matches as well, sealing the 5-4 win for the day.

With today's win, the Royals improve to 10-4 overall and 5-3 in MIAC play. Hamline falls to 9-9 overall and 1-8 in conference play. The Royals will be back in action Saturday, May 1, as they prepare to take on second-seeded Carleton. The match is set to start at noon.
