ST. PAUL, Minn./ST. PETER, Minn. - Bethel's men's tennis team was busy this past weekend as they went 1-1 in two important conference matches. On Friday the Royals played a home match against the Concordia Cobbers and came out victorious with a 5-4 win. The following day, Bethel traveled down to Gustavus to play the 28th ranked Gusties and were dealt a 9-0 loss.

On Friday, the Royals fell behind 2-1 after doubles competition as the duo of Joel Cassens (Sr., Owatonna, Minn.) and Tucker Morris (Fr., Arden Hills, Minn.) were the only team able to win. But Bethel stepped up in the singles competition winning four of the six singles matches to cement their 5-4 victory. Winning their singles matches were Cassens, Morris, Tom Ronning (Sr., Alexandria, Minn.), and Kent Nichols (So., Milaca, Minn.).

Against Gustavus the Royals fell behind 3-0 after doubles although the team of Ronning and Nichols nearly won as they lost a hard fought match 8-6. In singles, Bethel was not able to get in the win column but Morris played a solid match and was able to force his opponent into a third set before finally losing.

The Royals are currently 9-4 overall and 4-3 in conference play and have already clinched a MIAC playoff berth. Their next match will be this Wednesday when they travel to Hamline to take on the Pipers. The match gets underway at 4:30 p.m.
