ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - Bethel's bats came alive, and the Royals got back on track today at Hargis Park by sweeping Saint Mary's 11-4, 5-2. With a win in the first game, Head Coach Greg Indlecoffer earned his 150th career win as the Royals head coach.
In game one, the Royal hitters tallied sixteen hits and pushed across eleven runs.
Bob Tokar (Sr., Elk River, Minn.) led the offensive outburst with three hits, four runs, three runs batted in, and a two run home run.
Tim Oesterlin (Sr., Rochester, Minn.) also had a three hit game, and
Esteban Abbey (Fr., Chicago, Ill.) had four runs batted in, primarily from a bases-loaded triple to left-center field. Eight of the nine starters had at least one hit, and six Bethel batters had at least two.
The Royals got a solid pitching performance from
Matt Rowley (Fr., Minnetonka, Minn.), who gave up seven hits and four runs over six innings, earning him his first collegiate win.
David Freed (North Oaks, Minn.) picked up the second game where Rowley left off, taking a shutout into the seventh inning. He finished the game allowing just two runs on three hits while striking out three over 6.2 innings, giving him his first collegiate win as well.
Bethel's offense gave Freed all the support he would need. After jumping out to a two run lead in the third,
John Slick (Sr., River Falls) extended the Royal lead with his first collegiate home run on his way to a 2-for-2 game with three RBI.
With the sweep, the Royals improve their record to 11-12 overall (2-6 MIAC), and the Cardinals fall to 9-18 overall (2-6 MIAC). Bethel will look to build on their momentum in a non-conference double header against UW-Stout on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Hargis Park.
