ST. PAUL, Minn. -
The Bethel University men's tennis team had their four-match winning streak snapped as they dropped a heartbreaker of a match today on the road, coming up just short in a 5-4 loss to Macalester.

The Royals found themselves in an early hole following the doubles portion of the contest. Joel Cassens (Sr., Owatonna, Minn.) and Tucker Morris (Fr., Arden Hills, Minn.) managed to pick up the Royals lone win in doubles play as they won their match 9-8 via an 8-6 tiebreaker.

Down 2-1 entering singles play, the Royals managed to string together three straight wins before dropping the final two matches. Cassens, Kent Nichols (So., Zimmerman, Minn.), and Morris all won their respective matches in singles competition. Tom Ronning (Sr., Alexandria, Minn.) battled Macalester's number one singles player Michael Coleman in a hard fought, back-and-forth match, before eventually falling 14-12 in the final tiebreaker set.

With the loss, the Royals fall to 1-2 in MIAC play and 6-3 overall, while Macalester improves to 2-1 in the MIAC and 10-3 overall. The Royals will resume play Tuesday, April 6, at 4:30 pm, as they are scheduled to host the Saint John's Johnnies.
