St. Cloud State Results
OWATONNA, Minn./ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - Even though there is still snow on the ground, the Bethel Royals tennis team is already off and running. The Royals earned a pair of hard fought wins this weekend as they beat the St. Olaf Oles on Friday night and the St. Cloud State Huskies on Saturday.
On Friday night the team played at the Owatonna Indoor Tennis Center. The Royals won four of the six singles matches, as well as two of the three doubles matches to earn their first conference win of the season 6-3 over the Oles.
Tom Ronning (Sr., Alexandria, Minn.),
Kent Nichols (So., Milaca, Minn.),
Tucker Morris (Fr., Arden Hills, Minn.), and
Sam Scheevel (Jr., St. Cloud, Minn.) each won their match in singles play, while
Joel Cassens (Sr., Owatonna, Minn.) and Morris, as well as
Jordan LeFebvre (Sr., Roseville, Minn.) and
Michael Kreklau (Sr., Maple Grove, Minn.) earned wins in doubles competition.
The Royals showed their grit by winning three of the four three-set individual matches.
The following afternoon, Bethel played at home in the Sports and Recreation Center (SRC) where they defeated the Huskies of St. Cloud 6-3.
Ronning, Cassens, Morris, and Scheevel each won their singles match, while the doubles pairs of Ronning and Nichols, and Cassens and Morris each won their respective matches.
Bethel is now 2-0 overall and 1-0 in MIAC play. The Royals next match will be on March 6th when the team heads to St. Thomas to battle the Tommies. The match is set to begin at 6 p.m.
