Royals Fall to the Pointers in Home Opener, 2-0

November 5, 2010

BOX SCORE

BLAINE, Minn.,
The Bethel Royals Men's Hockey team took their home ice for the first time of the 2010 season Friday night where they took on the University of Wisconsin-Steven's Point Pointers. After falling behind in the first period, 1-0, the Royals couldn't muster up enough offense as they fell at the hands of the Pointers, 2-0.

Entering into Friday nights affair, the Pointers were fresh off a sweep at the College of St. Scholastica last weekend. Bethel knew they would have a tough task in the nights opponent and appeared up to the task throughout much of the first period of play. Despite a controversial call from the officials, which ultimately led to Tom Menozzi (Sr., Lakeville, Minn.) receiving a game misconduct, the Royals battle hard and ended the period only down one goal.

Bethel's defense was stellar throughout the second period of play as Steven's Point received very few clear shots on net. Goaltender Zac Bush (So., Tyler, Texas) was essential to aiding the Royals play on the evening, as he kept them in the game with several good saves.

Trailing by a one after two, the Royals were down to their last period to string together a couple of goals. With several questionable penalties, the odds didn't appear in Bethel's favor. Steven's Point would tack on one more goal to finish the game 2-0.

The Royals will face another tough opponent tomorrow night, where they will host St. Norbert College. The puck will drop at 7.pm.
