BOX SCORE
ST. PETER, MN - Gustavus Adolphus College hosted the Bethel University Men's Hockey team last night in a bout that resulted in a 5-4 loss for the Royals. It was the Gusties who came out strong in the first with 3 goals and left Bethel with a 3-1 deficit going into the second. Two more goals in the second by the Gusties made the game appear to be a long shot, but the Royals kicked it up a notch when they answered with three goals in the third period. However, there was just not enough time on the clock as the Royals were unable to continue on their magnificent efforts.
The first period had a rough start as the Bethel Royals were slow to begin. Gustavus saw their opportunities and took shots from tough angles. Two slid past goalie Zac Bush before the Royals answered back with a goal from
Jake Irey. But the Gusties answered back one more time before intermission.
The Royals placed Michael Sperl in between the pipes and attempted to put some more energy and aggressiveness into their game. Yet, the Gusties were not finished scoring as they put two more pucks in the net and put Bethel in a tough position as they were now down 5-1.
The story of the locker room was a come-back speech and the Royals hit the ice with a new tenacity.
Jake Kogler lead off the period with a power play goal from
Jon Crouse and Christian Fogerty. Followed by
Jack Paul from Christian Fogerty and Lukas Jorgensen. And then another goal, this time by Christian Fogerty from
Jack Paul and
Mason Swenson. A valiant effort, but the Royals were unable to put one more in to go into OT.
Join the Royals next time as they play Concordia College on December 3rd at the Bethel University Arena. Puck drops at 7:00 p.m.
