BLAINE, Minn. - After a pair of nice wins over Northland College to start 2010, the UW-Superior Yellowjackets came to Bethel University Arena and spoiled whatever good cheer lingered from those victories. The visiting Yellowjackets scored four times in the first two periods against Bethel, on their way to a 5-1 win.
Kyle Dynan (Sr., Orono, Minn.) scored Bethel's lone goal five minutes into the third period, assisted by Tom Menozzi (Jr., Lakeville, Minn.) and
Jack Paul (Fr., Minnetonka, Minn.) to make the score 4-1, but UW-Superior made up for it by adding another goal just over a minute later. For Paul, the point was his sixth in his last three games, coming off of a five-point series against Northland. He is currently the leading scorer among MIAC freshmen with 14 points, and is among the top 10 scorers in the conference.
The Yellowjackets outshot the Royals by a 3-to-1 ratio, firing 40 shots on goaltender
Aaron Damjanovich (Sr., Remer, Minn.), who stopped 35 of them. Bethel managed just 13 shots on UW-Superior's goalie. Chris Wilson did the most damage for the Yellowjackets with a goal and two assists in the game.
The loss keeps Bethel from reaching .500, setting the squad back to 6-8 overall, while Superior improves to 8-5-1 on its season. The Royals are scheduled to stay at home for one more game on Saturday, this time against #5 nationally ranked St. Scholastica beginning at 7 p.m.
