NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Bethel came into tonight's game against St. Olaf looking to shake off last weekend's 3-1 loss to Saint Mary's. The Royals did so by defeating the hosting Oles 3-2 in a thrilling overtime contest.
Missy Vavra (Fr., Minnetonka, Minn.) put Bethel ahead 1-0 with barely over a minute left to play in the first period, with an assist going to
Jenna Bullock (Sr., Buffalo, Minn.). However, the Oles answered barely over a minute into the second period to tie the game at one apiece.
St. Olaf then took a 2-1 lead halfway through the third period, putting the pressure on the Royals to score in order to keep the game going.
Paige Lemieux (So., Fargo, N.D.) answered the call by scoring her fourth goal of the season with just 2:04 remaining, assisted by
Hillary Hartwig (Fr., Elk River, Minn.).
Now in overtime, the two teams played a highly defensive battle, as only one shot on goal was recorded, but it was the one that counted.
Kassy Sullivan (Jr., Roseville, Minn.) helped the Royals emerge victorious by netting her third goal of the season with the help of Lemieux.

Jess Newstrom (Fr., Cambridge, Minn.) warded off 39 shots on goal to earn her fifth victory of the season, and the Royals are now 5-9 overall and 5-4 in the MIAC heading into tomorrow afternoon's showdown with the Oles at Bethel University Arena in Blaine. St. Olaf is also 5-4 in conference play, while holding a 9-7 overall record.
