WINONA, Minn. - The Bethel Royals women's hockey team traveled to Winona, Minnesota on Friday evening, where they took on the Cardinals of Saint Mary's University. Prior to tonight's matchup, the Royals looked to turn their season around and come out on the winning end of their recent one-goal battles. With solid defense and timely goals, the Royals did just that as they snatched up a victory against the Cardinals 2-1.

Bethel's first goal of the game came late in the first period when Sarah Kartak (Fr., Lakeville, Minn.) got the puck past the Saint Mary's goaltender to give Bethel the lead heading into the locker room. Once again, the Royals would score, this time midway through the second off the stick of Molly Eagles (Fr., Falcon Heights, Minn.) pushing the Royal lead to 2-0. Things were starting to look up in the Royals favor until, SMU's leading goal scorer Nicole Olson notched her 10th goal on the season.

Entering the third, it appeared the game was set to go all the way down to the wire. Royals goaltender Jess Newstrom (Fr., Cambridge, Minn.) stopped all 12 shots attempted in the third period to lead the Royals to victory on the evening. With the win, Bethel now moves to 4-8 on the season and 4-3 in conference. They will finish their season matchup with Saint Mary's tomorrow afternoon at the Schwan's Super Rink in Blaine. The puck drops at 3 p.m.
