Game 1 Box Score | Game 2 Box Score

ARDEN HILLS, Minn.
- Travis Adams (Sr., Chanhassen, Minn.) has pitched 45 2/3 innings against conference opponents this season and 40 of those innings have been scoreless thanks to his fourth complete game shutout today. Adams blanked the Carleton Knights and Bethel won the first game of the doubleheader 7-0. Tim Oesterlin (Jr., Rochester, Minn.) hit his third home run of the season and the Royals got some timely hits to add to their run total. In game two, the Knights defeated the Royals 8-2.

Bethel broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning by bringing in four runs. Jay Slick (Fr., River Falls, Minn.) hit a one out single, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and came around to score on a single by older brother John Slick (Jr., River Falls, Wis.). Then, with two outs, John scored all the way from first base on an error by the right fielder. Bjorn Anderson (Jr., Arden Hills, Minn.) added an RBI single, and the Royals used a first and third base situation to their advantage to bring in another run in a rundown scenario.

The Royals tacked on a single run in the bottom of the fifth inning on an RBI double by Ryan Doheny (Sr., Anoka, Minn.), and then two more runs in the bottom of the sixth on Oesterlin's homer.

Adams gave up an uncharacteristically high number of walks with six, but still managed to strike out five and prevent any Carleton runs from scoring in his seven innings of work. Adams now leads conference pitchers in innings pitched, shutouts, and strikeouts.

In the second game, the Knights did not have a big inning to account for a majority of their eight runs. Instead, they put up either one or two runs in all but one inning. The Royals were able to keep pace through the first inning, but efforts to steadily add more runs fell short.

Jay Slick hit an RBI double in the bottom of the first inning to score Oesterlin, and Mark Therrien (Jr., Spring Lake Park, Minn.) hit an RBI sacrifice fly with the bases loaded to score Doheny in the bottom of the fourth. However, that would be all the runs the Royals would muster against Carleton pitching.

Starting pitcher Chris Harrell (So., Minnetrista, Minn.) took the loss, as he gave up five runs in five innings. He allowed six hits and three walks while striking out one. Chris Dent (So., Marietta, Ohio) finished out the last two innings.

Bethel's record moves to 19-17 overall and 10-8 in conference play heading into the last two games of the season. Carleton's record changes to 18-16 overall and 10-6 in the MIAC. The Royals are scheduled to play one more doubleheader, and that is at Macalester on Saturday, May 2, beginning at 1 p.m. in St. Paul.
