ARDEN HILLS, Minn.
- In today's doubleheader against the Hamline Pipers, it was clear that the recession has not affected production at the Bethel Royal run manufacturing plant. While there have been occasions of slower output, the factory was running very efficiently today as Bethel scored more than 10 runs for the fifth and sixth times this season, leading to a sweep of the visiting Pipers 11-0, and 11-2.

In game one, reigning MIAC Pitcher of the Week Travis Adams (Sr., Chanhassen, Minn.) threw another shutout by pitching seven strong innings, allowing just four hits and a walk, while striking out two batters. It didn't hurt that he got plenty of offensive help along the way. Bethel scored four runs in the bottom of the first and steadily added to their lead with two runs in the fourth and five in the fifth. Tim Oesterlin (Jr., Rochester, Minn.) went 3-for-4 with two runs and a double, while Jay Slick (Fr., River Falls, Wis.) went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs and four RBIs.

In game two, Kyle McCracken (Jr., Johnston, Iowa) got the starting nod to take the hill for Bethel and pitched six innings, allowing just two runs on six hits. He walked two and struck out two and also picked off a runner. Again, the Royals took an early lead by posting three runs in the bottom of the second inning and never looked back after that. Oesterlin was 3-for-4 with a double, triple, and three runs batted in, while Tim Churchill (Jr., Mt. Prospect, Ill.) hit his first home run of the season and second of his career to knock in two of his three RBIs on the day. Slick was 2-for-2, raising his team-leading batting average to .525.

Bethel is now 11-9 overall and 3-1 in MIAC play, while Hamline falls to 10-11 overall and 2-2 in the conference. The Royals doubleheader scheduled for Saturday, April 4, against Saint John's has been pushed back to Sunday at 1 p.m., depending on the weather.
