FRIDLEY, Minn. - For their fifth conference contest of the season, the Bethel Royals took on the Saint Mary's Cardinals in what proved to be a flawless match for Bethel, and they defeated the visiting team 9-0.
On a day when every Bethel participant went two for two in his matches, it's hard to focus on one or two performances that stood above the rest - every Royal pulled more than his own weight that day. Number two singles player,
David Torres (Sr., Arden Hills, Minn.), kept his opponent at only one game per each set, and in the end finished 6-1, 6-1 in singles.
Jordan McIver (Jr., Alexandria, Minn.) boasted the best singles score coming in at 6-1, 6-0.
In doubles, Saint Mary's barely had a chance against Bethel's deep roster. It was the combination of Torres and McIver that produced the best doubles score, finishing with an 8-0 shutout.
Tom Ronning (Jr., Alexandria, Minn. ) and
Kent Nichols (Fr., Milaca, Minn. ) also performed well, and walked away after an 8-1 victory.
With the win, the Royals move to a comfortable 6-3 overall, and 3-2 MIAC record. Saint Mary's has yet to clinch a victory in the conference, though they sit at a 3-6 overall record. The Bethel men are hoping their next match, on April 4, against the visiting Eau Claire Blugolds at 10:30 a.m. will go as well as this one did.
