ST. PETER, Minn. -
The Bethel Royals women's hockey team returned to action on the road against the #3 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus Gusties. The Royals grabbed a first period lead but were unable to hold on, coming up one goal short in a 2-1 conference loss.

After being held scoreless the previous night, the Royals tallied their first goal of the conference season when Sarah Kartak (Fr., Lakeville, Minn.) scored her first collegiate goal with help from Missy Vavra (Fr., Minnetonka, Minn.) and Kassy Sullivan (Jr., Roseville, Minn.). Despite being outshot in the first period 12-3, the Royals took their one goal lead into the break.

Unfortunately for the Royals, the Gusties showed why they were ranked #3 in the nation in the second period as they scored two unanswered goals of their own to take a 2-1 lead while outshooting the Royals 19-2. The Royals were never able to sustain any comeback, as they were outshot 32-5 in the final two periods.

Nicole Jones (So., Mora, Minn.) was brilliant in goal for the Royals as she faced a constant barrage of shots, eventually ending with 42 saves on the day. Special teams were a definite positive for the Royals today as they finished 1-3 on the powerplay while they also effectively killed off all four penalties of their own.

With today's loss, the Royals fall to 0-5 overall, and 0-2 in MIAC play while the Gusties move to 2-1-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The Royals' next game will be on the road for a non-conference match-up with UW-Superior Tuesday November 14 at 7 p.m.
