Box Score

BLAINE, Minn.
- Facing the nationally ranked Gustavus Gusties in their conference opener, the Bethel Royals were held scoreless, falling 7-0.

The Gusties scored four times in the first period, getting the lead in the 7th minute and never looking back. Mollie Carroll netted the first goal on a power play and had two goals in the game. Bethel would hold Gustavus scoreless for the majority of the second period, allowing a goal with 12 seconds left on the clock. The second was easily the best period for the Royals, as they equaled the Gusties in shots, 10 to 10.

For the game, Bethel could never quite find enough open ice to create scoring chances, going 0-4 on the power play and only putting 1 shot on goal in the first period. In total, the Royals attempted 15 shots to the Gusties' 43. Constantly under pressure, Jess Newstrom (Fr., Cambridge, Minn.) held tough in net, coming up with 36 saves.

Kassy Sullivan (Jr., Roseville, Minn.) and Rachael Geng (So., South St. Paul, Minn.) led Bethel with three shots each. Allie Schwab, Tam Meuwissen, and Lindsey Hjelm each had three points to lead the Gusties.

After the loss, the Royals drop to 0-4 (0-1) and Gustavus improves to 1-1-1 (1-0). The two teams face off again tomorrow, in St. Peter, Minn., starting at 2 p.m.
