WINONA, Minn. - It's been said that all good things must come to an end, and so it is with the Bethel Royals' unbeaten streak. The Saint Mary's Cardinals snapped Bethel's streak at six with a 4-0 win over their visitors this afternoon.
The Cardinals scored a trio of goals in the second period, all within a span of seven minutes. They tacked on an additional goal in the third period to skate away with the victory.
The two teams fired an equal number of shots with 26, with
Bethany Murphy-Aultman (Sr., Grand Rapids, Minn.) and
Sandra Felten (Sr., Cashton, Wis.) taking five apiece for Bethel. Unfortunately for the Royals, the Cardinals put three of their shots past three-time All-MIAC goaltender
Beth Spurrier (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.), and then added an empty net goal as their final tally.
With the loss, Bethel drops to 8-7-3 overall and 7-3-2 in the MIAC. They remain in third place with six games remaining, but Concordia won today, narrowing the gap between third and fourth place. Saint Mary's improves to 6-10-1 overall and 5-6-1 in the conference to take over sole possession of sixth place. Bethel is scheduled to return home to take on St. Olaf College next Friday night at 7 p.m. for their next game.
