MORRIS, Minn. - For the first time in six games, the Bethel University men's soccer team was held scoreless as they were topped by the University of Minnesota at Morris by a score of 2-0.
A goal by Zach Gilseth at the 19:35 mark of the first half, assisted by Kelsey Duerr, ultimately proved to be all the Cougars would need to fend off the Royals. Brent Diggs added a goal off of a penalty kick with less than five minutes remaining to add to the Cougars lead.
Bethel struggled to control the ball long enough to fire off many shots as Morris was able to get off 30 shots compared to just 13 for the Royals. Morris also had 10 corner kicks compared to Bethel's three.
Brandon Peplinski (So., Maple Grove, Minn.) and
Andreas Scott (So., Cedar, Minn.) tried valiantly to get Bethel on the scoreboard as they fired three and two shots on goal, respectively.
The Royals fall to 1-3 overall, while the Cougars improve to 3-1. Bethel is scheduled to take on the University of Dallas tomorrow at 3 p.m. in Morris as the Cougar Classic weekend-long tournament continues.
